Nurturing Your Self-Concept: A Quick Journaling Practice

Happy Monday evening! Tonight, I want to talk about self-concept—how we see and understand ourselves. It’s the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings we have about who we are, and it shapes how we show up in the world. When our self-concept is negative, it can hold us back, make us doubt ourselves, and impact our confidence and decisions.

But when we work on improving it, we start to see our true potential, feel more confident, and create a life that feels more aligned with who we truly are. I’m on this journey too, as I’m setting goals for my life moving forward, becoming more aware of myself, my energy, and how I can manifest the life I want. That’s why I’m so interested in learning about self-concept, and I’d love for us to work on it together.

This post ended up being a bit longer than I could share on my social media, so I decided to make it a blog post instead, which means we can dive even deeper into this topic! I’ve put together some simple tools and questions to help us strengthen our self-concept. Grab your journal, and let’s dive in together!

1. What are my strengths?

Write down three things you feel good about today. They can be as simple as getting out of bed or being kind to someone.

2. How do I talk to myself?

Catch one negative thought you had today and turn it into something kind about yourself. For example, change ‘I’m not good enough’ to ‘I’m doing my best.’

3. Who makes me feel supported?

Think of one person who always lifts you up. Make a plan to spend more time with them or reach out today.

4. What does my ideal self look like?

Close your eyes for a few minutes and picture yourself at your happiest. How do you act? How do you feel? Write down what you see.

5. What’s one small thing I can do for myself today?

Pick something simple like taking a few deep breaths, saying ‘no’ to something that doesn’t feel right, or giving yourself a small treat. Just one little step.

Tarot Card Insight: The Chariot Reversed

As a special touch for those who’ve taken the time to read this, I pulled a tarot card for you—The Chariot Reversed.

This card reveals how a skewed self-concept can truly hold us back. It’s Spirit’s way of saying that when we don’t fully believe in ourselves, we often feel stuck, lacking the confidence to move forward. The Chariot reversed reminds us that self-doubt, fear of how others perceive us, or feelings of unworthiness can cause us to lose control over our path.

The Chariot reversed challenges us to recognize that it’s our self-belief that drives us forward. When our self-concept is rooted in negativity, it’s like having one foot on the brake, making it difficult to reach our goals. This card’s message is clear: to regain control and steer our lives in the direction we desire, we need to confront these fears, let go of limiting beliefs, and nurture a more positive, empowering view of ourselves. It’s a powerful reminder that true progress starts from within and that believing in yourself is the key to moving forward.
